TECHNOLOGY

The surface coatings are applied by sputtering which is a low temperature physical vapor deposition technique with no coating buildup to alter dimension on the parts.
Metallic surface coatings are applied by sputtering in a vacuum with a small amount of
inert gas.
Non-metallic inorganic surface coatings are applied the same way but a small amount of reactive gas such as oxygen or nitrogen are added to inert gas so that the metal vapor reacts and forms a compound which deposits on the product.
Normally, product to be coated requires fixturing, but Innovative Coatings' proprietary technique allows coating of the bulk product without fixturing.
The bulk product container can hold as little as a few grams to several kilograms of material and different geometries can be coated in the same batch. Since the process does not rely on electroplating to deposit coating, non-conductive and plastic materials are ideal candidates for this process.

PROCESS

The sputtering process involves putting a container(s) of product under vacuum, where inert and reactive gases are introduced.
The sputtering plasma is created by high voltage and the plasma vaporizes a metal.
Sputtered metal vapor combines with reactive gas to form a durable anti-corrosion, anti-wear compound, which is bonded to the surface of the metal or plastic item.
The thin film deposit is conformal and very adherent. In the absence of a reactive gas, a pure metal coating can be deposited with the same adhesion to give the desired surface modification.
The thickness of the coating can range from a few nanometers to over a thousand nanometers, depending on the desired properties of the coating.
